Short description:
A tradition known as Gévaudans Gift started around 1770 after the providence of Gévaudan, France suffered a multitude of wolf attacks that starting in 1764 and continued until the summer of 1767. Before the killing stopped the creature known as The Beast of Gévaudan, killed between 60-100 men, women and children. The killings finally ended when a local hunter, Jean Chastel believing the creature a werewolf, killed the beast with a single blessed silver shot.

The tradition of Gévaudans Gift faded through the early 1800s. The gifts are usually presented in a plain wooden box, but more elaborate hand carved sets are known to exist. The gift of a single silver shot was thought to bring luck and good fortune to the receiver. It recounts the chilling history: from the wolf‑like creature that claimed dozens of lives between 1764 and 1767, to Jean Chastel’s legendary silver shot that ended the terror. The tradition of gifting a single silver musket ball — a token of fortune and protection — faded in the early 1800s, but you present one such relic today.

Inside the hand‑crafted leather‑hinged box are five musket balls:
four darkened with age, one bright with promise. All are dropped into a small bag and mixed. One by one, spectators reach in and take a single shot, holding it tightly without looking.

And yet… you know exactly who holds the silver.
