“Do you ever think about your future? Most of us do. In fact, many of us
obsess about our future. Some go to fortune tellers in the hopes of easing
their worries about what is to come. I’d like to try to gain some insight into
someone’s future here tonight. I am going to use a technique employed
by fortune tellers in the England of the early 18th century. It used cards
(which look like tarot cards but are not) and the principles of Numerology.”
From a packet of 28 fortune-telling cards, the spectator selects one card
by applying one of the principles of Numerology. The card is remembered
and returned to the packet. The spectator names a three-digit number,
and cards are dealt into three piles according to the digits selected. Those
digits are added together, and the sum leads to the selection of another
card…the same card as initially selected…the Key card.
“Looks like you possess the key to many opportunities in the future!”
The card is returned to the packet again.
“I don’t know about you all, but in my experience, my plans for the future
often get altered by forces beyond my control. Sometimes, I lose sight of
my future. There are 28 cards here. I want you to look for yours.
The cards are dealt one at a time, and the selected card (the Key card) is
“Have you lost sight of your future? Not to worry. When one door closes,
another will open…as long as you have the Key!”
The performer opens the box from which the cards were originally taken,
and the missing card is found inside.
